Title: Rough costs in abbertoire
Post by: greedyasapig on September 21, 2014, 09:47:34 am
Hi all,
Just a quick question how much roughly do abbertoires charge per lamb to slaughter...
Not butchered... is it per kg dead carcass or live weight per kg?
Thanks i did try to look online but kept on getting the pig abbertoire guide.
Thanks Wayne

I think prices are different all over the country - we have little choice up here as use one half an hour away at Inverurie but the cost is very high (possibly the highest in the country) at £16 - £22 per lamb / Hogget.

I only know what I paid for slaughter and cutting and that was £19 per lamb. Vac pac was £7 on top of that.

We pay £12 kill and £13 cut. Kill is £14 for hogs and mutton.

Millers of Speyside charge £20 for slaughter of Lambs and Hoggets, older sheep are £25. They don't do butchery any-more.

Rhinds of Elgin have become very expensive - a neighbour was asked £50 to slaughter a lamb - I think Rhinds want to stop private kills - too much bother for them I suppose.

The inverurie abbatoir is about £18-19 per head for slaughter. Butchery can be anything from £25 to 40 a head dep on keenness of butcher and degree of fancyness required. I butchered my last 4 myself...

We pay £22 for kill and basic butchery into one bag(farmer's cuts).  If the joints are bagged and labelled it is £7 per head extra plus mincing is £3.  Expensive, but the staff are really helpful and good with the animals.
