They look like rose hips to me as well.

Definitely rosehips of some kind or other (as in which specific rose I don't know).

Great in hedgerow jam but pick 'em young or filter it to make jelly - the seeds are like shrapnel if you don't.

On further investigation..... I think it is berries off a  spice bush .

What sort of spice bush? We've moved recently and have a wild plum/black bullace/cherry plum. Made some jam and it's divine!!

i think they are rosehips aswell but a different variety than what we have. if you google rosehips, loads of pictures come up.
