As the crows are moving through ALL my apple trees and eat/damage the fruit we are now taking off all apples. I only have limited cool storage for storing eating/dessert apples, so was wondering has anyone frozen apples (both eating and cooking) for use in winter? Cooked or raw? I will juice some (steam juicer), but really want to be able to make pies from my home grown apples as we have a really good harvest this year!
I would use them for making apple tarts/pies/crumbles and the cooking ones mainly for pies and apple sauce.

We've frozen them peeled, cored and chunked and they were fine.

Did this yesterday. :)
You can freeze in chunks, uncooked. Core and peel, then cut into whatever size chunks you want.
Put straight into a bowl of lemon water (juice of half a lemon mixed with cold water) to prevent browning. Lift out, pack into freezer bags, squeeze out air and seal.
The freezing will break down the texture of the apple, how much depends on the variety, ripeness etc.
HTH. :)

I often freeze stewed .... put freezer bag full of apple into the dish you will make pie in ... freeze ... and you have just the right amount to defrost each time!

Anke perhaps look on line , You tube etc at a simple light bulb heated dehydrator set up so you can also dehydrate stuff next year .
