Hello all
Sponging the ewes on the 20th of this month for the first time, can anyone who has done it share any advice or tips on putting them in? I know I need to use lots of lube and be careful of not going in too far?
Asked the vet if he would show me and he said he's not done it before! !

Lots of lube, you go very slightly upwards towards the backbone, if anything. Go slowly and gently, and if you get resistance, rotate the tube back and forth whilst pushing slightly, rather than just pushing. Once the tube is in place, you just push the plunger to put the sponge in - that bit's easy.
Wash the tube in warm soapy water between each one.
It wasn't difficult, I did it for the first time last year. For women, it seems sorta familiar, if you get my drift.
There are YouTube videos too, which might give you a bit of confidence.

Yes I have been told that lady farmers are more adept with the technique...
I didn't use the applicator though when I did mine, just lots of gel and disposable gloves. Worked fine.
