Title: Wanted: Someone to look after smallholding on Black Isle
Post by: MurmuringWheel on November 26, 2009, 08:31:14 am
Hope I'm alright to post this here, I'm advertising on behalf of a friend:

Person or couple wanted to look after smallholding on Black Isle (North
of Inverness) from April next year (2010). At present has polytunnel and
rare breed Kerry cows. Hens, ducks and bees waiting to be taken on.
14'2" Connemara pony also may be brought over from Ireland next year.
Plant an orchard and trees. Must be able to or willing to learn how to
milk one cow from next July when she calves. Mobile home and possibly
vehicle also provided. Views to sea and mountains, forestry behind. Very
quiet area, fairly isolated.

Please contact me if interested and I will pass on advertiser's contact details

It is tempting isn't it :)

Not sure but I think it's a long term thing, but if someone wants to take it on for a shorter time, she may be interested.

Anyone who is toying with the idea can contact me for her phone number if they fancy finding out a bit more.

Why is she offering this? Getting on a bit and too much for her maybe?

??? I don't think that was a fair comment, neither was it relevant to the subject of this thread.

I don't know the full circumstances but as far as I know, the lady in question currently lives too far away to be at the smallholding all the time.

I only posted this to help someone out and though that some members here might welcome the opportunity.

Again, anyone who is interested, please feel free to contact me.

I used to see jobs posted like that one in "The Lady" magazine, always looked out and did get 2 x jobs but I did not take them on, one was looking after a farmer and his dogs in Devon, there was a cute free cottage in return for cooking an odd meal, feeding and exercising his dogs when he was away, my OH went for an interview for a job nearby but as he did not get that, I did not take the tied job. Another was in Egypt, but that got postponed for various reasons. I was always tempted and there was regularly similar jobs in the highlands and islands, I saw it as a  bit of experience and change....great for someone to grasp a different life!!!!! Not me now though..

I wasn't being derogatory - just curious as it seemed such a good offer.  And I think the question was extremely relevant.  Someone reading the offer might decide to go up there, spending a fair bit of money to pay a visit to a fairly remote part of Scotland, and discover a whole lot of issues.  So it is always best to be totally truthful.  Thank you for the explanation you have now given.  That makes perfectly good sense, although I do wonder why she had a smallholding so far away from her home anyway.  JMOPO
