Title: What cleaning product to use after infection
Post by: Red on August 21, 2014, 02:21:56 pm
We lost all our chickens a few weeks ago to a strange infection and in 2 weeks will be starting again with some new girls so can anyone recomend a good product for ensuring the previous infection had gone ...

depends on what the infection was-any idea?

I've used this http://www.biolinklimited.co.uk/disinfectants.html (http://www.biolinklimited.co.uk/disinfectants.html)

and virkon in the past. I also use Stalosan F fairly regularly and quick lime pens when I can rest them afterwards.

It's a shame the vet didn't test one of the birds but one of the above products should do the trick followed by creosoting or limewash all housing.

Can you put the new birds on fresh ground?  Did they have access to any unusual plants?  If tey had layers pellets did it smell at all mouldy?

F10 is the one recommended by our vets so I use it now for incubators etc. - and it's not harmful to birds - but it may not have the all zapping power of some of the others (given you have two weeks until the new birds arrive, you don't need to panic as much about it being bird friendly).
