Title: Water consumption
Post by: kevkev57 on November 17, 2009, 11:49:21 am
I just recieved my annual water bill after last weeks meter reading. I don't know how many of you are on metered water, but I would like to see any comparisons you may have.

Family of four including two sons who for years would have to be dragged to the shower, now spend most of their daylight hours washing.....I heard girls were bad !

Ok, so for 2009( end october ) we consumed on average 174 litres of water a day. This is down from 220 litres for 2008, and 273 litres for 2007. The reductions are due to using grey water for flushing, using harvested water more, and generally trying to cut back.

I still think it is an astonishing amount of water per day, in gallons thats around 38 gallons a day. As a price comparison between here in the Ardennes and in the UK, the last bill for the year was 248 €

Any thoughts ?

Kevin

We don't have water metering yet. although it may come even with the volume of natural stuff we get from the skies.  I sank a  well for the house I built in Aberdeenshire so again no rates to pay anyway - that was producing 40 gallons and hour!  I have absolutely no idea how much water I use.  "If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down" has been my motto for a while. ;) ;D  I used washing up water for plants in the summer, and although I have a washing machine and a dishwasher I make sure they are full to the gunwales before switching them on.  I'm going to put in a water butt fror next summer - just in case it is a really really nice and hot one - I wish!(http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Computer/computer-11.gif)

How often do you flush your toilet??!!
And do you follow all those 'tips' like turning off the tap when brushing teeth?

Are you charged for water piped Away from your property as well as piped In?  It could be this adding to the bill without you realising
