Title: Hatching egg sales
Post by: Stereo on August 15, 2014, 02:09:26 pm
We've done quite a few this year. I've sold every decent Welsummer and Light Sussex egg we had and quite a few random mixed up ones as well. I was wondering when things start to tail off as we are still selling very well. Is there a market into the winter? I guess you need to keep on top of fertility.

according to the FB poultry pages, some hatch year round. Not sure how they can be bothered or how it can be cost effective or how much good it does the poultry tbh. Most pure breed breeds I know have stopped hatching anything other than bantams by now.

Yeah, it takes so much more feed to get to POL / table after Aug / Sept. I've got some on the go now having said we wouldn't hatch late this year but needed more hens and also some unrelated cockerels. I don't expect any of them will lay before next spring though.
