Blimey Russ - can't you move that wagon a little way out the way of the Ash Tree :o :o :o Its a howlin' out there now like you said - but the torrents of water comin off the top fields has eased :P....but just hopin' the Goat Shed holds out :goat: (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Nature/rain-019.gif)
All the critters (apart from the sheep :sheep: (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Animals/jumping-sheep.gif) ) are tucked up in their beds - and bloomin glad to go in they were too (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Sleepy/sleep-058.gif)
Keep safe Russ and run like hell if you hear the sound of snapping (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Surprise/surprised-005.gif)

Its pretty miserable here too. Every time it rains here half the bridle path that goes up the hill gushes down past our house and onto the road.

lol... no it is a 30 footer stuck 2 feet in the air on blocks ...Branches have hit the roof before , but so far only ones upto about 3" or so in diameter and about 12 foot long. One big one , about 6" and 20 foot did fall right next to it last year though .... It fell during the night and didn't even wake the dogs let alone me !!!
Wind is easing again here now , and the rain is back , not as heavy as before at the moment .... I bet the river floods tonight though .... safe up here from that .... must be about 40 foot above the river.
Good luck with the goat shed ...hope it holds out ok ...take care mate ....
cheers

Ahh - mmmmm...bit big to push along a bit then ;) Yeah - sounds like its easing off a bit now - keeping everything crossed that's the worst over with ???
Stay safe everyone. :)

west lothian (well, linlithgow) has been pretty nice - hope it holds off til Monday, i've a load of garden jobs tomorrow
starting off by planting some of the garlic i grew last year - so this will be my 1st "free" garlic - fingers crossed
-
Brill - good luck with the garlick Sellickbhoy
I tried planting the cloves from a shop bought garlic earlier this year - but although the tops all looked OK - there was nothing goin on beneath the soil !! >:( Guess I should've bought a proper garlic for starters :-\
-
Hope it stays away from Berwickshire too, got sheep to worm and tag tomorrow. My son has day off so promised to help clean out hen and duck houses, be just my luck weather too bad and i will have to do them myself next week.
-
Up here in Lanarkshire it's fairly calm - possibly the calm before the storm ???
I did hear they're expecting winds of up to 70mph and torrential rain down south though - batten down the hatches everyone ! "worst storm of the year" according to the BBC.
I'll be thinking of you all & hope you're all ok (especially those of you in caravans ;))
BTW Sellickbhoy - love the new avatar ;D

I have grown garlic from the stuff that comes in the blue box from tesco , two garlic bulbs per box. It grew fine ...slightly smaller maybe than the boxed , but really good garlic and lots of cloves. I started mine about October time though . I think it depends on the growing year wether you can get away with spring planted cloves . One year I got perfect bulbs with good cloves , planted in spring . But another year I got really big single bulbs , no separate cloves at all ...The garlic itself was fine to use in cooking though.
cheers

I've always done that and had good bulbs - I never buy garlic now.
-
the rain has started = boooooooooo
apparently there is an organic company from Nairn up nr Inverness
they sell via tesco - they are called the Nairn Garlic Company
anyway, as they grow the stuff in this climate, i'm sure if yo went to tesco and bought a few of their bulbs they'd do well over here
a lot of shop bought garlic is grown in spain, so probably wouldn't do well in the scottish climate
-
Yup, my first bulbs came from Tesco!
No rain here yet. Hope it's not bad tomorrow I'm driving to Ingliston for the Gundog Show with Allez, but have to walk the other dogs first.
-
It is now pouring here
-
bright sunshine here but sooo windy!
-
Lots of rain and wind here in North Devon.
Hoping the pigs and chickens won't need wellies and armbands!! :)

:gloomy: :gloomy: :gloomy:Wet, Wet, Wet!!!

TERRIBLE NIGHT and STILL raining now at 10.30am, but looking a bit brighter in the distance. Local villages have been flooded by the sound of it :-[
I wonder what went wrong with my Garlic then :-\...it came from Tesco's....but just grew lots of green stuff above the ground...and little else beneath the ground ???
>:(Still raining >:(

very rough late last night , but just very wet and windy this morning . The electric went off this morning for an hour or so , maybe they were repairing lines somewhere.
Another branch near the caravan ...about 4" dia.... but it was deadwood anyway , lots of small stuff ..the dogs are having fun playing with them anyway ....
I don't know what the problem with the garlic was ? . If you plant in spring it has to be as early as possible for good results . Weather can also have an effect on it though . It may just have been one of those years . Try a few more bulbs anytime now , and then stick a few cloves in, in spring, compare results.
cheers

It rained here for most of the night and my yearling and minature shetland must have crossed the river before the rain, not a hope of them getting back across today, however according to the forecast that I have just watched it is to be dry here tonight and tomorrow. I sure hope so as there is not much field on the other side of the river and no way out.

It was a Spring planting this year......so will give some more a go very soon. At least the Poly is still standing ::)

OMG - when will it EVER stop ??? ??? ??? Pigs are well peed off now :pig: - and I'm getting through mountains of straw. Horses now in at night :horse: - and bloomin glad about it they are too ::) Chooks don't know WHAT to do with themselves :chook: - just stand huddled in their doorways etc waiting and keeping feathers crossed for some respite. Goats bored to death :goat: and now going stir crazy. Turkeys - hmmm....not sure what they think :turkey:. Geese loving it as are the ducks :&> - all that mud ;D The only things 'not bovvered' are the sheep :sheep:
Anyone got an boat/ark we can borrow ;)
-
I was just thinking about an ark, myself!! Seems to have rained hard non stop for a week, although yesterday was a little better. Then last night it rained hard all night, with high winds. This morning, the fields were like rivers. I got soaked feeding the animals before work, and had to try and unblock a land drain before leaving, so was absolutely soaked.
Stopped raining for the moment, but very dark and dull .......I cannot stand the mud though. The hens may have little feet, but they don't half make a muddy mess!!
