Title: Abattoir in the North East of England
Post by: clarty-northumbrian on August 04, 2014, 06:19:53 pm
Hello

I'm a 16 year old small holder from the Tyne Valley in Northumberland and I keep a smallholding which includes a small flock of Shetland Sheep.

I have 4 hogs that are almost ready for the chop! For the past few years I have taken them to a small family run abattoir and butchers called Nattrass and Sons but it is almost an hour journey there and was wondering if anyone knew of an abattoir in North East England that would slaughter (and butcher) a small number of animals?

Interested to hear if anyone knows of any?

Many Thanks

We are only 25 mins from Nattrass but we tend to use Simpsons in Cocksfield. Not much good for you as it would be further away.
We are only 17 miles from Hexham so quite local to you but I really don't think you will find one closer than Nattrass  :-\

Black Brow near Wigton is also very good, but probably a similar distance for you.

It may be worth asking a good local butcher who *he* uses; generally a high street butcher only charges a little more for kill and cut than the abattoir, and is a lot more flexible about what cuts you want etc.  You still take the lambs to the abattoir, and then collect the butchered lamb from the butcher.
