Title: Info required for ear tags
Post by: katie_thorpe on July 27, 2014, 08:40:55 pm
I need to order some ear tags for our lambs (first lot this year?!) and am not quite sure what info I am meant to have to get ear tags? Also any advice on who to get them from?

Cheers

Katie

There are a number of websites you can order tags from and they will ask for all the required details. Shearwell are who i and a lot of others use. The thing to ask is whether they are meat lambs, or whether they will be kept for more than 12 months of age (this includes for meat). Meat lambs under a year old only require a single slaughter tag with your flock number on, if staying til over a year, they need a pair of 'breeding tags' which have flock and individual numbers.

I have found Shearwell staff very helpful and they deliver quickly.
The electronic tags are always yellow and you choose the colour of the second tag - I find it easier to read the lighter coloured tags.
