... get excited when their pullets lay their first ever egg? :excited:
Or is it just me? ::)
Silly eh ....???? :innocent:
Doris, my Blue Haze just presented me with her first ever attempt ...
-
I get excited when they start laying again after the winter! :innocent:
-
We've allegedly got 6 laying hens, but right now just the sight of an egg would get me excited!(They've taken to eating them themselves, to save me the bother of collecting them - how thoughtful!!).
-
Eat them and buy some proper hens! :innocent:

....Or does any one else (like me) get furious when they see a lovely big egg sitting in the nest box only to find it has a big peck hole underneath.......!!!

I have had a fair few firsts where eggs are concerned - the first ever from my 4 original POLs had its photo taken and posted to anyone I thought might laugh in a nice way rather than a cruel one ;) Then the first from the rescue hens which felt like a reward for the work put in. The first from my only ever homebred chick. And the first blue egg from the rescued one legged chick who sadly is no more but she lived a year and produced her wee blue eggs regularly til near the end, bless her.
Now I'm only getting 4 eggs a day from 10 hens my mini sigh of relief at finding them is enough to keep me going. There is another kind of sigh when I discover the odd stash of undateable and therefore unsaleable eggs while weeding in among nettles and under bushes ::)
Did I mention thinking of a few new POLs? ::) no sense, me!

Don 't worry about the unsellable ones - I can sell my own and buy your ones for the dogs. I've asked David to get me some of your delicious quiches! Hope to see you soon

I've had hens on and off for 25 years and I still like collecting the eggs .....
-
Its a marvel ... every day! Very exciting :)
-
Yep, I still get a buzz out of it. Every one a little miracle of goodness :)
-
And I hope you all, as I do, say thank you to your ladies for their daily miracles!
-
I tell my hens to get on with some work in the mornings and nag them if production is down for too long ::)

i always say thankyou girls, when collecting the eggs, and yes, those 1st one's do raise a smile

I was very excited recently to be given some quail eggs. They looked and tasted great in my salad.
