Hello All,
I thought it only polite to introduce myself before I ask for your knowledge.
My name is Nick and I live in Derbyshire, I do not own a Smallholding but I hope to buy one in the near future if all goes to plan, and that is why I have joined.

Hello and Welcome!!
Whereabouts are you, I am in Derbyshire, and there are a couple more people on here, from same area too.
-
Hi hope you find you smallholding soon. :pig:

Hi and welcome!

Hi and welcome from the very middle of Derbyshire!
There's a few more yet to come.... !

You are most welcome, greenman! I was just thinking - we could all go on a busmans holiday next year. Swap smallholdings. Wouldn't cost anything other than transport, but it would still feel like a holiday being in someone else's house and looking after their animals, and it would feel like another holiday coming home to our own!

Welcome to the forum. Whereabouts are you? I'm in Milford.

Hi Nick
I have just moved into my smallholding two weeks ago, so like yourself i'm at the start of the great adventure. I have only joined the site this week and already have learnt so much. The members here are really friendly and a bundle of information. Good luck with your search, we were very lucky hope you are too.

Very warm welcome so thank you all, I am from Biggin by Hulland originally but for the last 4 years I have been living in Belper, however, after some advice I already gained on here I may be Nick from Normandy soon. You are all very lucky to have holdings already and I am so jealous (I say lucky but the reality is that most of you will have saved for years and worked 24-7 to get where you are, so probably not luck at all) Anyway, I hope that you will all be able to help me on this journey toward my life long dream & thank you all in advance for putting up with my stupid questions.

Its very small... but if ever you want to come and see how we do things here, you're very welcome - PM me.
We just have a proper back garden smallholding with chooks, 2 goats, pigs, quail, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats and dogs. And a full time job!
So are you planning to move soon, or still dreaming?!

Hi Greenman, Nick from Brittany (much less rain) sounds good too ;D ;D ;D

Hello from another one of us from Central Scotland, although I know Derby a bit as I went to Uni there and worked sometimes in Derby, well I know Derby Trainstation anyway...Welcome ;D
-
Hello from mablethorpe, ( ex sheffield ) Welcome to the site.

Hi Greenman, welcome to the site! Best of luck getting a smallholding, it took me several years to get my hands on some land close to home (Central Scotland) and now have 7 acres. Unfortunately, I have to work rather hard for the next few years to pay for it and improve it before I can really get started in earnest.
Gordon.

Hi all and thanks for the welcomes and info again!
Just to update you, I have a new plan to start a back garden smallholding whilst looking for the correct property in Derbyshire with a little land. I will also be keeping my existing full time job. I have completely ditched my plans for self sufficiency, at least for the foreseeable future anyway.
Speak to you all soon and best of luck with all of your various ventures!
Nick

Well thought out plans sometimes have a way of hitting back at you but good luck with this one. Sounds a good start if you are young enough. We had a croft and missed the chance of making a go of it as we wanted too many material things, and kept our jobs. Learn in your garden but don't wait too lonmg before taking the plunge or you may find life has passed you by!

Welcome, Deblob
I'm in the Wee County now - used to be in Aberdeenshire - are you further North than that?
