With all the talk of intelligence on the 'left handed' thread - I found this site.
I'm probably going to be terribly showed up by all of you - but my score was 143.
Go on, have a go and tell us what you get ;D

I'm shocked - I got 138. I really struggled with the maths questions and just guessed. I'm very pleased with the result although I'm sure on another day it would be a totally different score!
-
138 - same as my Mensa Exam taken over 18 years ago - but did not become a member.
-
Yes--------well :-[ :-[ I fell at the first hurdle. I never was too bright!
-
The things you do when it's raining! 140 for me.

I knew we were all a clever bunch ;)

Meh.
The test failed on a number of levels. The first being the length: too short. The second being the requirement for knowledge: the jumbled letter questions as IQ is based on ability and NOT knowledge and it's incredibly difficult to unjumble a sequence of letters unless the word has high activation in your semantic memory. The number sequences, pattern matching and logic is all good though .. but the lack of feedback on the test (or I missed it) was disappointing.
I've forgotten who mentioned it already in the thread .. but the time of day you take it, the amount of food & drink you've had, how tired you are, whether it's the time of day you are naturally most alert etc etc etc all affect the score you will gain anyway. As does gender and age ... so anyone who didn't enter an (almost) accurate gender & age at the start, you can discard the score you got!
Some day I'll sit a proper test with Mensa and then not tell anyone my results.. because it doesn't matter a jot :)
-
For all the reasons you give Calum I dont think anyone would take it too seriously. Just a bit of brain 'exercise' during a heavy shower which got me indoors. (I was still pleased with 140)

My concern with these things is that some people do take them seriously. Now if, as everyone who's posted their score here, you get an above average score, fantastic, doesn't really matter if it's taken seriously or not. Now consider someone who gets a significantly below average score and takes it seriously .. there are many factors that could contribute to the low score and it may well not be representative of their IQ .. yet it could still lead to distress amongst other things. I'm not talking about someone who's largely stable gets a bit miffed and has forgotten about it a couple of hours later, more someone who already has other issues that it can build on.

more someone who already has other issues that it can build on.
Like all us nut cases on here, you mean, Calum? ;D ;D ;D
-
I've been ill over the weekend, so there is NO chance I'm going to be drunk enough to answer that in the near future 8)
-
Sorry to hear that, Calum. hope you're feeling better soon. x
-
Farrrrrrrrr too easy for me ::)Not going to show you all up by posting my IQ.
-
I agree with Callum about the test.
I did a test in a magazine when I was 32, and was told that only 2% of the United Kingdom Population had as high an IQ as myself, and would I like to sit a proper
Exam at Bradford University.
I sat the exam on a cold, Saturday morning, along with about 30 people of various ages, and we were not allowed to talk, and had a book-like exam, and the examiner gave you a
vertain time to complete the page, then told you to turn over and start the next page.
You were not allowed to turn back, even if you had time left at the end of the exam, the test was based on fast reaction to the questions.
I did the test on the PC as fast as I could and did not take much time over the answers, and so this would reflect in my answers.
Also my age would too, as I got 138 when I was 32, I would probably have a lower or much higher IQ now, dependant on my daily routine and if I stretch myself or regularly do things like studying, crosswords, and sequence tests. If I did nothing, since I was 32, then this would reflect in my score, as I would not be keeping my brain agility "fit".
The reason why the exam sheets are timed, is because, with n=more time, everyone could work out the patterns and answers.
Plus it doesn't really prove anything - although I have found that people with higher IQ's tend to be like most of us on here:-
Not Sheep - Ask questions and question motives - like Rustyme and myself
Are Creative and Artistic - again Rustyme, Myself, Happy Hippy, Annie, Sandy Fluffy
I could go on, but the other common denominator is lifestyle choices too, we are all looking to be "different" again, not sheep, but looking at ways to improve the quality of our lives and not, say, work all our lives in a boring and repetitive job.
I think having a higher IQ gives you "more choices" in life, as you can project, see patterns and change things for the better if you want to.
Just my opinion, but Callum is right about the test - it should be longer, timed and make you move on to the nect question when time is up.

PS WELL DONE SANDY ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

:-[ :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:ONLY JOKING!!!!!! Never did the test, don't like that sort of thing...I worked with children, some could not read or even recognise letters and some would fly through every exam, even some went to Cambridge BUT, I saw them all to just have different talents. I measure success with happiness not intellect. I remember my Ex's Aunt, she led a very simple life and had her little routine and that made her happy, I envied her simplicity as the more intellect you have, the more you think about and create problems for yourself!!!!!!! Anyway.......I am very happy and not too unintelligent either ;) ;) ;)
-
No no, Sandy, you were not joking were you :o :o :o
Will get ya back for that - ps expect a parcel in the post - if they ever get off strike ::)
Julie ;D
