Happy hippy wrote on another post that she felt sorry for the Polar Bears in the global warming scenario - because like her -they're all left handed (She don't know where she got that info but she thinks its true...
WELL
Hello Happy Hippy,
I am left handed too - all the best most creative and likeable people in the world
ooohh and intelligent ones ARE lefthanded - I have a book that PROVES it
Its called "A left handed history of the World" :o
All these people are or were left-handed:- Bill Gates, Lewis Carroll, Mark Twain, Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Beethoven, Queen Victoria, Ramses the Great, Michaelangelo,
Mahatma Gandi, Issac Newton, Julius Caesar, Joan of Arc, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael,
Charlie Chaplin, Henry Ford, Napoleon, Marie Curie
JUST TO NAME A FEW ;D ;D ;D
Any other members left handed that wanna join our famous club :o ;D ;D
ALSO do you know that there is a link with ADHD and Left handedness, something to do with being intelligent and hormones and right side brain functions. THeres a lot of other interesting facts about left handers too in my book. ::) 8)
-
I am not but I am the odd one out in my house - My husband and 2 kids are lefties and even the dog will only give a left paw - They are all against me!!!!!!!

I didn't know that Julie, but Kaitlin's definately a righty ???
I'm the only left handed person in my family ;D
But us lefties are most definately more creative IMHO.
The one thing that annoys me is when people say to me "Oh, what lovely writing you've got, for being left handed" ??? Does it make a difference ?
I'm going hunting for that book now, sounds like something I need - unlike left handed scissors, cutlery and guitars ;)
-
I am!
def more sensitive, more creative, more intelligent (haha!)
v bad writing though really! Though I don't do the whole hand twisted backwards thing....
-
There used to be A Left handed shop at meadowhall in sheffield. It closed due to lack of trade!
-
I went to one somewhere on holiday when I was a kid, I remember buying a left handed ruler, with 0 at the opposite end and driving my teacher crazy!
Can anyone actually use left handed scissors?!

Love the Idea of a left handed Ruler!
My daughter who is almost 6 was at ball class last week where they had the chance to have a try out at hockey. She just couldn't get the hang of it at all - I wondered if it was because she was left handed so I asked the teacher if they had a left handed stick she could try only to be told that they wern't allowed to use them any more.... Oh well I had better get her to try tennis instead!
-
Now I know why I hated Hockey at school ::)
all it was to me was an hour of people bashing my little
skinny ankles with big sticks ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I'm right handed and hated hockey at school - what does that mean?
Two of my daughters are lefties and my Gran was too. But she had her hand tied behind her back until she learnt to write with her right!
Did you know that is not just hands that are dominant left or right, It can be feet, ears, eyes
Footballers have to know whether they are left or right footed to be able to train well.
-
My Mum became ambidextrous because she was forced to write with her right hand as well.
-
I am left handed, and its because of that, that I think I have a hight IQ. although my OH says I have no common sense.
It took me ages to learn to knit ......the teacher went mad cos I seemed to sew backwards. If I write on a page, I have a massive margin. I am pretty certain if I use a tin opener, I sort of open it backwards. I find it hard to write cheques, as my left hand covers half the cheque ......on the other hand (excuse the pun) I am only left handed for writing, other things definitely use the right one.
-
Roxy, you can ask your bank for a left handed cheque book. We provide them for our customers.
I am kind of left handed. I was left handed originally, however, was given the BGC at 2 years old. That wasn't too much of an issue, but they skin tested me afterwards "to make sure it had taken" and I couldn't use my hand or arm. That combined with the fact that I wanted to be like my sisters, made me learn to write with my right hand. However, I can now write legibly with both!
-
Im let handed & i write backwards with my right hand like mirror writing. my partners left handed but he writes lagibly with his right just not as neat & our son seems to be both handed but hes only 5 so may yet choose right or left. does anyone else wright the wrong way round with their right hand[ or left if right handed]?
-
I watched a programme once about twins, they claimed that left handed people started life in the womb as a twin, but the other twin never developed? How true that is I've no idea ;)

WOW - I have a high IQ too :o ???
I didn't learn to knit until I was 24 because nobody I knew could show me properly, then I met a friend who was left handed and she taught me, and now I am a brilliant knitter and do lots of fair isle and pictures in my knitting - I love it . ;D ;D
I am only left handed for writing too, I can play pool quite good as a right hander - and used to be a bit of a hustler in my 20's.
Seems there's more to being left handed than even my book suggests - knitting, high I.Q. etc, I find this really interesting. ::)
The teachers at school tried to change me to write with my right hand, and my Mum told my Doctor, who wrote a letter to the school saying that there was nothing wrong with left handers and changing in at 5 years old could cause brain damage so to leave me alone. ;D ;D ;D
-
Okay, so I have to now admit to having a high IQ too -I'm former member of Mensa, was invited to join after filling out one of their tests, got a score of 188 ! ;D That however, was before my brain melted when I was pregnant ;D don't know if it's ever properly recovered ;D
But, after doing more research on the polar bear thing - seems I got that bit of info wrong :-[ But apparently it's a widely believed myth due to lots of things they do.
Writing (and smoking :-[) are the only things I do left handed, for everything else it's my right I use. My dad (a rightie) taught me to play guitar and when the school heard I played they went and got me a left handed guitar - never been so confused in all my life ::)
Anyway, I do know that long ago left handed people were believed to be satanic (most 'witches' were left handed) and the tying of the left hand behind one's back to make the person right handed was common practice - glad we've moved on a bit since then ;)
-
Yes - a lot of left handed people were burned at the stake - their high
sensitivity, IQ, intelligence, visionary skills scared the locals to believe
that they had magic powers or were "witches" so they got rid of them.
The traits of left handed people are:-
Intuitive ::)
Empathetic ::)
Visual-Spacial Abilities
Lateral Thinking :o ;D
Hot Tempered ;D ;D
Solitary ;D
Iconoclastic ???
Self-taught ;D
Experimental ;D
Fantasist ::)
These traits help them to see differently to right handed people and also see future trends, future problems, and be prepared for new things quicker - probably why theres so many of us smallholders that are left handed. ;D ;D ;D
-
I wonder how muslims go on if they are left handed as they have to use their left for certain things?
-
Iconoclastic ???
Definition of Iconoclastic :
1. One who attacks and seeks to overthrow traditional or popular ideas or institutions.
2. One who destroys sacred religious images
Definately not me ;D
Nor am I hot tempered (Honest ;))
But everything else sounds about right LOL! ;D
-
My OH is left handed....so that PROVES his high intelligence since he married me ;) ;D
-

Both of my twins are right handed and my father whose twin died before birth is right handed so no help there then.
My eldest daughter who is left handed and dyslexic is incredible, SENSITIVE, CREATIVE, HIGHLY INTELLIGENT. Got it all from her right handed mother though!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
As for it running in families.. it doesn't in mine! My uncle is a lefty (but adopted) my Father in law is, but nobody else I can think of on that side.
And how come I missed out on the 'Spatial abilities' and lateral thinking?!
-
I write and smoke :-[ with my write but do everything else with my left! I am not intelligent and think intelligence is overrated!!!! ;D
-
You are intelligent, your just too bashful to admit it ;D ;D ;D
-
Well it seemed to be family oriented with us. My twin Aunts were/are both left-handed, My grandma was too, my Mum was but was forced to write with her right hand so became ambidextrous. My sister and I are both right handed, but my elder grand-daughter is left handed. Not sure about the wee one as yet but my grandson is right handed.
-

Weird word intelligence. You are clearly intelligent! unlike some of the powerful people in the world Some of the U.S. Presidents seem to have been a little lacking on the old grey matter. Probably a good job too. They might have been more dangerous. :D
-
official right handed but am ambidextrace, uses what ever hand, side, foot extra is closes to the object. Btw another when of them facts is that left handedness has a link with dyslexic and colour blindness (only person in my blood family (that i know) lefty was my granddad and little T is left handed) Who idea of spelling his name is to put the letters anywhere on a page, but as he wrote them in the correct order it's correct lol.
If am supertired i can write a word at the same time with both hands and mirror them.
How many people can pick stuff up with their feet/toes ? am better at that with my left side then right side
Last tested my IQ was 129 just above average (in uni) mum had her tested (many moons ago) and was invited in to messa at IQ of 149

I quite often pick up objects with my feet! seems my left and right feet are equal, but I write right handed and eat left handed!
-

I've heard that too, but not sure how much I believe it. However, I would add that I was a twin, but my twin was miscarried only weeks into the pregnancy (it took a few weeks after that for mum to actually realise that she was still pregnant).
Dyslexia does run in our family too, mum was originally left handed, and is dyslexic, my brother is strongly left handed, and is really badly dyslexic- he never managed to pass A level English because of it. He only managed to get his degrees, because of my mum and his girlfriend doing about 20 spell checks on his dissertations. I also have dyslexia, but only really mildly.

Spell checkers are a killer for dyslexic lol

Nice to see another person using their feet to pick up things. I pick up rubbish (only mine and inside the house), pencils and all sorts of things. Both sets of toes grip just as well. But, I am very right handed. When I take my boss up her tea in the morning, (I do it because I want to) I have to have the cup in my left hand because I can't even knock on the door successfully with my left hand. Only one thing I can do with my left hand and that only makes BF happy!! :cat: :chook:

Scramble an egg?
Open a can of baked beans?!!!!!!!!
