Post by: kelly58 on June 13, 2014, 09:54:57 pm
Got a chuck whos egg bound, can feel it whole in her back end. Have given her olive oil .
Put lube  in  her vent , gave her antibiotics in case it breaks.
Any ideas please  ??? Vets aint got a clue with chucks up here.

I have never had an egg bound chuck myself, but I have heard if people holding the hen above a kettle so that the steam hits the vent area. (Not too close that it burns, but to almost act as sauna)

No idea if it works.... But I sure relax if in a sauna :)

I managed to sort my little chook out with a warm bath and gentle massaging.  It took a while but it worked!
Best of luck with her.x :fc:

try and get some calcium- mealworms are high in calcium (helps with the contractions). Vit D can help with take up of calcium so a bit of cod liver oil in their pellets every so often might help. I only ever had it in older hybrids, the pure breeds I keep don't appear to suffer.
