Title: Grandson
Post by: sabrina on June 12, 2014, 07:16:47 pm
Just spent most of the day visiting my daughter in-law who had her 3rd child two and half weeks ago, She is feeding on demand and baby Frankie demands a lot. Mum has little time to do much but look after Frankie and 3 year old Stephen who thinks mum should still be able to play outside with him. I have offered to give her a day off once a month just so she can have some time to herself. I also said if things get too much just to give me a phone and I will come over. Its a 60 mile round trip but I remember what it was like to be so worn out looking after little ones. My son is away just now due back tomorrow and she has missed having another adult around . My granddaughter is 12 and great with the little ones, I think she was glad that Frankie was another boy as she has had to be little Stephens playmate. Pretty sure this will be my last grandchild so going to make the most of him. Already mum has lost half a stone. Was not too well after the birth but now doing well.

I am sure she will be grateful of your offer, even is she doesn't take you up on it. I am sure things will look different once your son is back. Hopefully he does his share of the work.

Congratulations Sabrina  :)

My 3rd baby was demand fed and she demanded hourly day and night! I was exhausted so can understand totally. I remember my mother in law used to come over every wednesday and take the baby in the pram and just keep pushing it till she fell asleep, she'd often take a toddler or two afterwards for a walk so I had an hour or so to myself.  She also sometimes brought with her a cottage pie and allthe veg prepared ready in freezer bags.
Those are memories I relish as someone did something so amazing and it meant so much.
I'm sure she will be as grateful of your offer as I was of my MIL doing this for me. We had 4 daughters within a 5 year space, my memories are slightly cloudy as it was all a bit manic!

Congratulations on your new grandson, and how lovely you are able to offer them that support.  I also demand fed my boys, easy peasy with the first one, but a complete nightmare the second time with a ver lively toddler, so I appreciate how much that support means.  Your grandaughter sounds a delight too!

Congratulations. I too know all about demand feeding. My eldest was so regular in waking for feeds that you knew what time it was when she started to whimper. My youngest, on the other hand, wanted feeding every two hours and each feed took an hour. In between I seemed to be getting meals for the rest of them. Fortunately their father was unemployed at the time and did everything else.
