Title: Has anyone used a zwarble on welsh ewes before?
Post by: Azzdodd on June 10, 2014, 03:54:53 pm
I bought a pure bred zwarble flock few months back now and just bought a tup to go with them this tupping season I have a few welsh ewe's which to be honest have done nothing wrong and have reared lambs this year no problems so I'm gonna keep them also but don't really wanna buy a tup to go with them so planning on just putting them in with the zwarble ram to lamb in feb/March then put him with zwarble ewes for April lambs (purely cause the welsh x will be slower growing) anyone used this cross before?

Hi there.... I used a Zwartbles tup on my Badgerface Welsh ewes in 2012 and was very happy with the result, 7 lambs from 4 ewes....  I think you will be fine especially as the Welsh ewes have lambed before.
I attach a couple of photos, I did sell them at this stage due to illness so cannot comment on how the lambs turned out.

No I haven't, but I have crossed them with, wenslydale, freisland and british- milksheep. By the way the ewes were all that mixture. The cross with Zawartbles gave an awesome tasting meat and was a nice cross too. I would say it would be an interesting cross and the meat would probably be superb. :excited:
