Post by: bloomer on June 10, 2014, 12:01:56 pm
Finally after much waiting got paperwork through today to move house, it has been a drag...

Still renting, but new place has room for chickens (with permission) a good veg garden and some bee's...

Oh and a big flat normal area of garden for the kids to enjoy...

Heading over into Fife...

no it cant  :goat:  would need to be milked twice a day as if its not a milker its not worth the effort, it can go on the waiting list for the next property :-)

I disagree Mojocafa. Sheep were definitely for us, but they've gone by me several times tonight. Actually they also went around me and even over me at one point  ;) .

Have fun Bloomer - it's nice to see the next chapter of your adventure unfolding!

Goats smell and eat pretty much anything except what you want them to, from what I heard.  Get Mrs B thinking about a wee Jersey house coo or else put a couple ewes in the bottom of the garden and go for sheep milk products ;)  Sounds like Womble may be interested in rehoming sheep so you could even pop them in your packing cases when you're passing with the removal lorry ;)

There's a big Blackface in the field next door who looks just like a giant footstool.  I can see if the farmer will do a deal with you if you like Bloomer?

Bloomer if you lived near me you would be welcome to put a couple of sheep in with mine,  :fc:  That you find some land close to where you are moving, just do what I did and bug the hell out of the nearest farmer so that he will do anything to get rid of you ;D

I can't believe that on a small holding forum, there are actually still people that believe that all goats smell and that they eat anything! If they ate anything, I wouldn't have such a big feed bill! Bloomer knows which goats smell  ;)

Back on topic, very glad to hear the news, and yes I agree, goats don't need a lot of room....

They maybe don't need mush room, but they jump things!  I'd love some goats but they'd get over my fence!   :'( :'(

Goats are lovely - very affectionate - and if you get Saanens or a similar breed (but Saanens are best) they won't try to escape.

I am sorry to say that I kept saanens for a few years and one jumped out onto the road and got run over, I have still no idea how even to this day how she jumped out. :'(

Ballingall, read my post carefully and look at the ;) ;) hints that I'm teasing Bloomer and not insulting goats or their devoted keepers.  Once the knickers are untwisted maybe you won't need to call me ignorant and judgemental any more..

I also make no claim to know anything about goats, clearly "I have heard" is not enough to clarify that so I reiterate specifically that I have met very few.  Also, some of them did smell very bad to me when I did meet them - they were males and I was told it was a normal smell for them. It wasn't a smell I found attractive but I'm sure a female goat would.  I was also informed (I have not tried it or wish to) that goats are browsers rather than grazers and thus very little use for keeping grass down, which is the basis on which I don't particularly consider them as means of keeping my fields tidy where I would happily consider a few sheep - of the docile non-fence jumping or friendly bucket trained type since I also live beside a busy main road and with other sheep farmers as 3 neighbours.

I know very little about many many other topics and am as like to tease friends on that basis, online or in person.  Perhaps I should put a warning on all my posts but I did expect the smilies to be a reasonable sign of intention so I would appreciate the benefit of the doubt.

PS for the sake of avoiding further misinterpretation, I also didn't literally mean to encourage Bloomer to steal Womble's sheep, in case anyone was considering calling a police crime line.

That's ok Ellied.  If he can get within 100m of them he's doing better than me at the moment!  ;D

Bloomer, if you want docile, non jumping sheep then Ryelands would fit the bill nicely.  :hugsheep:

we only moved 30 months ago so clutter isnt too bad, our biggest issue is just shear volume of stuff 4 kids means a lot of toys!!!

I think I have a roomful of toys too.   :innocent:  What I was impressed by was there wasn't a sign of an i-pod, i-pad, mobile phone etc when they stayed with me.
