Title: Nuts or Rolls?
Post by: JulieS on October 19, 2009, 10:27:07 am
Can anybody enlighten me as to the difference between nuts and rolls?

My collection of GOS is growing, picked up 3 lovely gilt meat weaners yesterday  :)

Also two breeding gilts coming soon too.

So looking at a more economical way to buy feed.  I've been in touch with a feed merchant who has given me some great prices per tonne (will deliver in 25kg bags on a pallet, so easy to store).

I was just wondering what the difference is between nuts and rolls.  Seem to be the same ingredients, I presume it's to do with the size of pellet?  Apologies if this is a very basic question, and something I should know already!

What do your pigs prefer?

THe rolls are bigger than the nuts and useful, in dry weather, for spreading around the pen to add a bit of foraging time to the pig's day.
As to content Sow and weaner  or sow in either form should contain the same in rolls as in nuts.

I find that nuts seem to go at twice the speed of mash, and ours eat either with gusto! So I prefer to buy sack of mash, (though the protein level is a bit high for kunes) our local corn store has to bring it in just for us so it sometimes depends on what they can get.  They have small amount of straights as well, and loads of greens, grass, foliage etc.

Sounds like you'll be surrounded by pigs soon - how lovely!
