Title: abandoned flock
Post by: babysham on June 01, 2014, 09:09:13 pm
A neighbour has abandoned 7 ewes on my land beginning of Feb and I lambed them all. I have tagged the lambs with my flock number and also two of the ewes which had never been tagged. The other 5 have tags which I have noted and all have been logged in my movement book on the date they arrived. I was never given any movement paperwork for these sheep. Three ewes are old and need to go - how can I arrange for this as never seen they guy who dumped them?

I'm guessing there's two choices here... track the number and try and contact the owner/report them etc - and likely not get anywhere apart from hassle. Or find that somehow all 7 sheep lost their number overnight and you have to retag.....?

I suppose the real question is whether the sheep could wander onto your land or were deliberately dumped into a fenced field - or accidentally delivered to the wrong field?

You say 'a neighbour' which implies you know who it is.

I assume the ewes you tagged got red tags?   Red tag all ewes (they have of course all lost their original tags!  :innocent: )  and sell.  But keep close records as I guess the 'owner' could reappear sometime and try to claim ..... have list of ALL expenses you encountered (including labour costs .... that should send him running!)
