I've just spent the day with my spinning group giving a spinning demonstration :spin: at a local farm park. This is a regular for the group and my second time. The farm has the shearers in on the Bank holiday each year and the barn is set out with straw bales for sitting on so people can watch. :sheep: :sheep: :sheep: We are also in the barn showing what happens to the fleece once it's off the sheep. We are provided with food and drink and allowed to take as many fleeces as we want. I still haven't used the ones I took last year so decided not to bother this year. Some hope!!! :roflanim: I only had two though: one black and one dark grey. OH didn't even bother to say, "There's already a load of fleeces in the loft." He's finally realised it's a waste of breath.
Our group leader chose one of the earliest fleeces to come off and spread it out for people to see and for us to all grab some if we wanted to spin it there and then. I took some and it was so lovely and I was able to spin a much finer yarn than ever before. Sadly, I had gone to get a drink when people started to pack up and the leader asked if anyone wanted this fleece. By the time I returned it was in the bag with all the rest. :'(
My promise to myself is to get on with it and spin some of the fleeces I have. If it's sunny, I can sit outside and spin while I watch the kids playing, instead of just watching my little time waster. :spin: :spin: :spin: then I will be well away for doing lots of :knit: next winter. :excited:

My group spin at several shows over the summer. It's great when people seem really interested in what you are doing.
We are going to show weaving round a box this year too. It's very easy to do, doesn't require any specialist equipment and would be good for children.
One of the ladies my group has made several nice bags with this technique and even one made from baler twine.

Sounds like it is going to be a nice spinny summer. Hope it is sunny too :sunshine:

Too busy in the garden today to be able to do any spinning but I'm still very enthusiastic. One bonus for me is that I get to exercise my legs without struggling to walk.
