Title: Kune kune with a sore foot
Post by: ellie03 on May 26, 2014, 07:38:40 pm
One of my little KK boars is not keen to put his foot down and is limping a little.I have tried to check between his trots and  he practically said Oooow! I am going to try and wash his foot in a bucket of water to see if there is something stuck in there. Are there any sprays/treatments which might help him or should I just go for the salty water approach? Any advice welcome thanks. :pig:

As you are already about to do check foot for thorns stones cuts etc. We find it best to get somebody to do tummy rubs whilst the other looks at the injury.
Blackthorn is our biggest cause of foot probs but a sharp stone or old tile in the ground can also cause nasty cuts/abrasions.
Once you've got it clean if theres no obvious cut/abrasion, chances are he's just twisted something racing around,if theres a cut i would spray with a Terramycin spray (from vets) or purple spray if thats what you've got.  We have also found horse 'hoof and heel' quite good for sealing over cuts and keeping mud out as its paraffin based.

Plastic wound spray from the chemist does a good job but you need to be confident the wound is completely clean before sealing it off.

Many thanks-didn't see any obvious foreign bodies but gave it a wash ( before he tried to drink the salty water and then ran / hobbled off with the basin!) :innocent:
