Title: Things Geese shouldn't eat?

I have three young geese, ready to go out into the big wide world, well, into their outside pen.

I've never kept Geese before, and was wondering if there is anything they shouldn't eat in terms of plants etc?

Apart from grass, it's got some blue bells, nettles, bramble, bracken etc.

Any one know if any of those cause issues?

Also interested in this one as have six W of E goslings at nearly two weeks. We have just bought the stuff to make an outside pen for them. They are in the kitchen at the moment and the mess (we do give them water to swim in - they so love it!) takes some dealing with. They would obviously be brought back in and tucked up for bed. We have a lot of buttercups which I know can be a bit toxic. Would young geese be ok?

Your geese will know what they can and can't eat. Think about it, if geese went about eating stuff that was poisonous to them there wouldn't be any left.

I know that's the theory . . . . but I've seen plenty of animals screw it up  ::)

from your list the only one i know is poisonous in any way is bluebells and thats only the bulbs only in largish quantities and only to some animals...


i know thats no help really...

I've just put my goslings out today on grass no other plants available, in my book it's better safe as sorry.

What about Ivy?

I though blue bells weren't great, was wondering if the leaves and flowers were a problem and I can always let one of the pigs have a root about first.
