Title: How to prevent/cure sunburn?
Post by: Nethermoor Pigs on May 08, 2014, 03:19:00 pm
Can you all tell me you best methods for prevention and cure.  Have moved from black to white pigs and i reckon their ears are getting a bit.  Fowgill Farm alerted me to it and i reckon they may have a bit.

I bought factor 50 sun cream from the £1 shop last year. Just sprayed it on the ears when necessary

As Bionic says for prevention, if you already think they've caught a good smothering of sudocrem is good for soothing & healing.
Make sure they have a wallow & some shade too when the weathers  :sunshine: .

Remember the udder too, if it's a nursing sow.  Better to rig up shading - we have vertical corrugated iron sides to the pig runs and put strong bamboo canes down the gaps at 1 metre intervals, then tie green plastic windshielding to them.  Not the prettiest arrangement you've ever seen but it works!
