One day to go. :excited: :excited: Cloud is getting fed up with me sneaking up behind her and lifting her tail. :roflanim: No signs there yet, but her udder is very full. I've also noticed a sort of nest in the corner of the shed, where one of them has rearranged the bedding. They take it is turns to sleep in it.
FiB, great idea. It was nearly a year ago that we had plans and then my clutch went, of course. New car now so I should be safe to travel. ;D

She had a show about three hours ago and is now very restless and grinding her teeth. Apart from a few more sign of discharge, there's nothing morre showing. She keeps standing up and lying down again. She wants to ber near me and wants lots of attention. How long should it be now?

Chair, blanket, hot chocolate and matchsticks tonight! Hope all goes well :fc:

I'm already in the chair with my coat on. Blanket is next and I think I'll make a flask up when I next have to go indoors. Hope it's all over quickly. After last time, my nerves are already in shreds.

She had triplets but the first one was dead. A little girl but she was breech. I called the vet as soon as I realised it was a tail I could see but he was at a lambing (lost ewe and lamb :( :( ) so the first one was born by the time he got here. He felt inside Cloud and the second one had one leg twisted and the other one back so he pulled it out and the third. Cloud was not impressed with them at first but soon started making the lovely crooning noises and licking them. It took a while to get them to suckle but they finally got the hang of it so I am now indoors with a very large brandy, having left all four goats with the kids being licked by mum and Pom.
I think they are both girls but not positive. I'll investigate properly tomorrow. Yes, I took photos but I'm not bothering with them tonight. I want my bed. :goat: :goat: :goat: :goat:

Wow, wow, wow, congratulations, and well done cloud.
:bouquet: for little one who didn't make it.
You deserve a big brandy and a good night of sweet goat kid dreams. Then PHOTOS tomorrow ;D :excited:
-
Congratulations, sorry for the wee one who didn't make it, lets hope other 2 are girls, I wonder if you'll sleep well tonight ;D . Looking forward to pics.
I actually hate the kidding itself, should I help? should I wait a bit longer, she's not getting anywhere - PANIC - where's a phone number, oh - she's kidded ::) .
-
:relief: it's all over
Enjoy
-
Congratulations, you will be glad it's all over. :goat: :goat: :knit: :excited:

All well this morning. They are wandering round and suckling well although they don't seem to know which of these big goats is Mum. Both adults are washing them and both prepared to suckle them. I'm just hoping they are both getting some colostrum. They are so much alike that I'm not sure whether each thinks she (yes they are girls ;D ) has one mum or if they are going between the two. Cloud seems fine this morning and was back to shoving her head in the bucket as soon as it was low enough. The only difference is that she didn't meet me at the gate and try to get her head in the bucket while I was shutting the gate - her usual behaviour.
I agree with those who said that the actual kidding is traumatic. I'm so glad I called the vet as soon as I suspected all was not well. He said the second one would have been stuck as well. I could have lost all of them and Cloud as well. She was certainly pretty tired by the end of it.
So was I!!! The large brandy and the extra painkillers didn't help me to have good night and this morning I am :tired: . Maybe I should have asked the vet to give me one of his injections as well. It's worked wonders on Cloud. :roflanim:
We were so lucky as well that is was Chris on duty, who is the practice's goat expert. And my lovely OH who, despite being, in his own words, 'useless' after 10pm, stayed with us. He held Cloud while Chris was delivering the babies as I don't have the strength any more. OH was wonderful because he would really rather I hadn't kept the goats when I became disabled.

:thumbsup:Well done! Sorry that you lost one, can't wait to see pictures.

Always a good hiding place - just turn on the radio and nobody can hear you snore...
Congrats on two girls... looks a shed expansion is in order... :-J
-
We had it extended last year in readiness. We won't be keeping the kids in their present form when they are fully grown.
-
Soooo pleased for you Lesley - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy ? xx
-
Congratulations MGM! So traumatic. So good you had the right inclination to call the professionals early on, and so romantic of to stay the course.
Looking forward to seeing pictures.

I had to ring the vet today as the discharge from Cloud has intensified and looks more blood than anything. She is fine in herself and eating well, so he's not too worried. He put up another syringe of antibiotic for her which she has now had. (Thank goodness for friends who are prepared and able to do the job - my fingers don't work well enough now). The vet said they were big kids. I'm amazed that she managed to conceal three big kids so well. Although she expanded quite quickly, she never grew that big. I thought she'd just have one or twins at most.
The babies are turning into right Houdinis. The back gate into the goat yard is now out of bounds as I have tied a sheep hurdle across it and am old folding table is across the gap in the front gate. A new gate for the front is being made tomorrow (Thank goodness for friends who are carpenters who like home cooked meals) but the back will just have to stay out of bounds until the babies are bigger.
Appointment booked for disbudding. (Thank goodness for a vet who knows goats).
