I pay 6.50 for 20kg of pig food (16%) which equates to £325 a tonne. It's heygates.
I've heard peeps talking about £260-280 if bought by the tonne and I have good storage.
Where though do I find it per tonne!?
I am in Essex and google didn't help...

Any of the suppliers of heygates should be able to give you a tonne pallet rate just ask your local merchant, it should work out cheaper than buying it bag by bag.

Yes please. I buy through pets corner and take advantage of their discount, sounds like yours is better :)

Loose feed 18%, 250 a ton here. Go take a look around your local mills, and see what they can offer you.

I'm currently using Mole Valley (about £275 a tonne - in bags; loose is about £50/tonne cheaper, but I've had problems with feed going mouldy) but have also used BOCM Pauls in the past when their prices have been better. Definitely worth doing a ring-around to see who will offer the best deal.

This forum always produces the goods! The only one I could find from internet search is wynnstay and waiting for a price. Then trickier question...has anyone researched the origin and ethics of various bulk feeds? Not sure if it's even possible to go there, but in an ideal world it would be based mostly on British grains and non environment damaging protein (not random soya). One of the reasons we try to rear our own meat is welfare, another is to know what we are eating... Have cracked it with the poultry now, mix own food, but know it's more complicated with pigs. Hate the anonymity of pellets :-( but with 7 this time, we are going to get through a lot of food!

Bought my first bags of feed to get us started.....£9.90 25kg lineage rearers.... So nearly £400/tonne! From local farmers merchant. Gone up a bit since last weaners 2 years ago!!
-
Cheapest I have been able to find is 1.5 tonne pallet (bags) at 357/ tonne. Wynnstay. Have ordered a pallet but hope I can find cheaper by the time I need more....

Wow here in invernesshire I pay £12 for a 20 kg bag of Weaner nuts from Hasbro. Can anyone help me with a cheaper supplier in the north. Can't do bulk buying.

For what it's worth I'm currently buying 16% protein sow rolls from Duffields for £290 tonne delivered. These are packed in 20kg plastic bags. Minimum 1 tonne delivery. I have had some problems with the rolls going mouldy in the sealed bags. It's not unusual, especially in hot weather, and Duffields have always given me replacement bags on the next order (providing the returned ones are within the use by date). I would strongly advise that you try and find somewhere cool and dry to store your feed
Duffields cover most of East, Central , and Southern England. Their head office is at Saxlingham, near Norwich.
As has been previously mentioned, bulk feed is £50 -60 a tonne cheaper. I've asked several mills about buying in 1 tonne tote bags but none of them seem to offer this

We are just about to get a couple of weaners again and would be interested in buying feed in bulk purchase. Based in Ayrshire so could share with someone near to hand, have plenty of storage space here. :pig:
