It's a good site - I REALLY hate waste !
Everything, not just food - I try to reuse stuff wherever I can.
I like to think of myself as inventive but hubby thinks I'm cheap !  ;)

Me too. In fact if you go to the ASDA website - they have printed an enquiry I sent to them regarding waste fruit and veg. I was quite surprised to see that their representative had responded - but not to me personally - just put it right up there for the whole world to see! Didnt really answer my question anyway. What I was hoping for was some kind of common-sense arrangement where produce which is at the point between price reduction for quick sale before expiry dates and being hurled into vast crates to be taken away to a hole in the ground - could be offered to those of us who would gladly turn up and fill the truck and take it away to piggies etc. Maddens me beyond belief that justification is given to have green beans grown in Kenya and Asparagus tips from Thailand - air-freighted across the globe and then transported to their stores - displayed for a week and then flung out to rot at the tip.All those fancy veg and leaves requiring heat and light are grown to pander to the foodies - lots of which end up a slimy smelly mess and discarded in their cellophane bags.  And yet on the occasions I arrive unprepared and bagless at the check-out - I'm made to be the baddie who is going to ruin the world. Then when I ask if I can help relieve them of their huge waste - disposal of which they have to pay for - I am told that only properly licenced companies are legally allowed to remove such waste. Sorry, Mrs Bruce is ranting and will stop herself right now - thankfully my lassie needs the computer - so that shuts me up. Think will go pour a wee glass - and calm me down. Am I mad or does anybody ..... anybody at all out there understand where I am coming from?!  Ah well - cork's out - Cheers y'all. N

I also approached Tesco and Sainsbury, rather miffed actually, didn't get mine on their site or a reply. No seriously, I'm appalled that they throw this food away and hide under a law that I can't even find. The store managers at both companies told me that a law exists that means they cannot legally let it be reused. This law is in place to prevent the public from trying to resell the produce!

Totally with you. And the other thing that really bugs me is that all this fancy food sold shrink wrapped in the supermarket doesn't taste that good which is a contributory factor to it being wasted. It is picked unripe and gassed until it gets to us. Yuk!
I have a strong feeling that we are going to see a similar thing happen with the food industry that has happened with the banks. The current silly situation is clearly unsustainable. And no you are not mad there are loads of similar thinking people out there. Going to have a good look at the website now.

Hi Morgan,

Thanks for your comments, always nice to receive. I have noticed that you are based in Ireland and was wondering how our prices would look their? We are considering taking on a stockist to serve the Irish market and any names of fairly large Agricultural Stockists and farming magazines would be welcomed.

Kind regards,

Paul.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your replies so far. I think the site is thought provoking at the very least. You never know, it might just prick the conscience of some high and mighty food player!!

Regards,

Paul.

Yes I agree +can also pay to get themselves promoted (backhanders to the Governments too) recently been contacted by an Irish TD asking for our help to stop the supermarkets selling certain produce because they get paind 100,000 + per product to do so - this is stopping local producers getting in a "closed shop", unless of course, you have a few 100,000's to give away  ::)
