Title: Help! When can i put a weaned gilt back in with mumma sow?
Post by: Porterlauren on April 16, 2014, 10:40:51 am
Hello everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone knew when a weaned gilt could go back in with her mother. . . . .
We have 7 little ones in a paddock and 10 days ago weaned them off mum, she is in a paddock at the far end of the compound. . . .
We are looking to sell 4 of the little ones in the next week or so, which will leave us with 2 boars and a gilt, now the gilt is very well marked and we will be keeping her to breed from so were hoping to be able to put her back in with mumma pig in the next couple of days. . . . will this be a problem?

Thanks guys!

You need to wait until her milk has completely dried up, unless you want the gilt to be pestering her. Personally, I'd leave it two weeks.

Cheers.

Just for the record, the weaners are 12 weeks on Thursday.

Sorry - didn't see you'd weaned them so long ago! Should be fine now.
All the best,
Liz.
