Title: Electric Mayhem
Post by: raindogs on April 01, 2014, 08:28:38 pm
Just got my new weavers, but they've run straight through the electric fence - first year I've had a problem. Anyone got any thoughts on whether it might be:

- Problem changing from wire to tape
- Electrifier might be (at three years constant use) on the wane
- Pigs just flighty having journeyed here
- Anything else?

As always, grateful for advice, lovely people.

If they have never seen electric fencing before they need training to it. Pigs usually bolt forwards the first time they get a shock so need a solid barrier behind the fence wires so that they can't go through it.

Yes we have also found that if you get pigs that weren't outdoor reared (and so almost certainly not used to electric fence) will just thunder straight through it - we always have a chickenwire (that's enough to contain young weaners) fence behind the electric tape anyway. they learn in about a few days though.

Great replies, thank you. They've settled now and staying on the right side of the voltage.
