Title: Shetland lambs
Post by: Bramblecot on March 30, 2014, 12:38:40 am
3 lambs born this week to, all very dark grey katmoget.  2 mums are white and one katmoget.
Then this pair popped out this evening.  Sugar is a very flighty ewe and took 2 hours to settle into the stable, had the first one standing up, cleaned up, had a feed, fed the lamb then spat out no 2 without even a lie down.  Don't know what to call these markings ::)

Very pretty indeed  ;D

Some folk get very 'into' giving great long lists of the 'Shetland' names for markings. There's one family notable for it, so when you get a sales catalogue there are these exotic markings listed and when the sheep appears in the ring you think 'that's a katmoget' or whatever.

This is a fairly sane guide: Shetland sheep markings (http://www.shetlandsheepinfo.com/FLEECE/markings.htm)

Mine start in a week's time - just gotta sort out the the barn today  :)

Awww cute :)

I had my first pedigree shetland lambs born yesterday morning from a first timer, only had crossbred shetland lambs born before.
I am suprised by how teeny tiny they are!!
I have a black with white spotted head and a white out of a black ewe, I have 5 more first timers to go and then the ewes

Very cute.
I'm jealous and waiting impatiently for my shetlands to lamb.

I think they're waiting for the goats to start and then all come together in foul weather and I won't have enough indoor space. ::)

There is a wonderful poster with all the markings - I saw it the other day up here in Shetland.  Its only £2.50 plu P&P  - If I had space in Thebus I would have bought one  :)
