Title: Sea shells
Post by: shygirl on March 21, 2014, 05:27:57 pm
iv been driving past a certain field and wondering what the white blobs were in the set a side field for a while. I took the dog up there today for a walk and noticed they are putting clam (/?) shells on all the land in that area by the lorry load.
beautiful huge undamaged shells at that.
I presume this is for calcium - or lime??

Are they scallop or cockle shells maybe? Great for composting but I would have thought they would need to be broken down before spreading  ???

Same happens round here. I think they are ploughed into the ground.
