Title: ooopps i did it again and again and again and again
Post by: lokismum on February 25, 2014, 12:32:55 pm
hi all
I've been away for a while
I posted on here back in September last year because we had brought our first Shetland
well since then we have expanded slightly  :innocent:
our girl is doing wonderfully she had a full worm and some good feed
her topline is back she is a good weight no ribs any more  and her coat is brill and she is a little angel foal is due end of may ish and all is well  :relief:

I then had the opportunity to buy the farther of our still eagerly awaited foal (a stunning falabella  blend ) so that made our little family complete

after that along came our 21 year old bay Shetland that we rehomed then we added another falabella x to keep her company
finally I have just rescued a mare and her 7 month old foal who will take some time to get right have been wormed and the potbellies have now gone and we will start to improve the coats  we are working on the feet slowly (they will take some time )

so that now brings me to 6 minis and my 3 big girls I am truly blessed with them all every single one of the are wonderful they all have brilliant temperaments not a nasty bone between them

the foal was untouched but we are getting there shes a friendly little girl that just wants some attention and a cuddle she has discovered its nice to be groomed and a head collar isn't going to kill her but even through all the scary stuff she hasn't once been nasty  ;D

the little dun is a falabella x only 3 and poss in foal
the bay is our 21 year old she survived strangles and lost all 5 of her field mates to grass sickness while we were waiting to adopt her (how lucky we are to have her ) she is also wonderful with my disabled daughter
I don't have a pics of the mare and foal as yet

Strange to  hear Shetlands referred to as the "big girls" :o

I went through a stage of rescuing Welsh and Highland ponies around 15 years ago, big mistake but I couldn't help myself and had the space/money at the time and I don't regret the success stories I rehab'd and rehomed, nor the one that is still here.  Just be careful you don't get too carried away as there are so many needy cases out there and you can't help them all..

the big girls are my warm bloods 16.1hh 16,2hh and my nearly 4 year old  17.1hh daughter to the 16.2 (I didn't know she was in foal when I brought her so she was a little surprize when the vet confirmed she was in foal in may foal was born in july
I brought the little black mare for my daughters 2nd birthday knowing we would add more as i didn't want her in with my big girls seeing as she only comes up to their knees I worry she might get knocked about
we decided we would be better to rescue rather than buy seeing as there are so many ponies needing homes and I find I get so much more out of the rescues  with a bit of love and care
we also have at least one poss 2 foals due so that is our little family complete now

Nice ponies and I hate to say anything negative but please do not risk your child on a pony without a hat. She is too precious, all it takes is one wrong move and before you know it your child could be on the ground with brain damage. I have done the very same in the past until one day my friend who is a nurse saw a young child die. she fell off her pony who was just walking along when it got a fright. From that day I try to make sure all my grandchildren wear hats when on the ponies.

most of my pets have had a hard time in the past
I find when they learn to trust you and know that your not going to hurt them they build a stronger bond with you
I also think they are willing to give you that little bit more
