Hi, After always wanting to learn to ride I finally had my first lesson last July, a month after my 50th birthday. I didn't know anything at all about how to ride. My first riding school were not very tolerant (and that's being kind) I lasted 3 months and when the teacher shouted at me for not being in control of the horse (it got a bit spooked with the wind and ran across the ring and I nearly fell off - very scary)I decided maybe it wasn't for me.
But my lovely neighbour told me not all riding schools were the same and recommended a more local school to me. I was very nervous on my first lesson, but they were all very patient with me and I am now booked to go on my very first hack on Friday  I can't wait ! My advise to anyone thinking of learning to ride is to -go for it, but choose your riding school carefully.

Have fun I love hacking out. Just getting back into riding after many years out of the saddle!

Well done!
And yes, not all riding schools are the same. When my then-boyfriend wanted to learn, in his thirties, we found a place near us which specialised in teaching adults. She had a couple of classes most evenings, just 4 in a class, and did things like spending time loosening us up on the horses before starting work. All riding instructors and instructresses shout at you, that just goes with the territory! :D, but being all adults together in a small ride enabled her to work us in ways more sympathetic to our less youthful bodies and minds ;)

That's super, pleased you found the right place, and hope you enjoy your hack, I'm sure you will. (I don't ever shout!)

Fab, hope you have a great time.
I started riding at 4yrs old, stopped at around 16 when I found boys & alcohol more entertaining :-J cost my parents a fortune in lessons but I absolutely loved it.
I decided to book a 'beginner' adult group lesson at a local school a few years ago (I'm now 34) and found it sooooo scary, I kept thinking 'this is quite dangerous' and I didn't feel at all safe :( I was absolutely shattered and haven't been since :roflanim:
Maybe I will return to it some day :eyelashes:
