Anyone going?
Entries don't look too great at the moment. Did anyone go last year??
-
I'm waiting for teh catalogue - the website is woeful. I'll probably go along for a nosey unless I get a better offer.
-
THe catalogue is now on the website - if ou can't find it, as I couldn't and had to phone them - it's in news under poultry sale. It's truly woeful, when you compare it to say H&H or ANM
-
Oh no!!
I wish I hadn't entered anything now, and why can't they spell my bloody name right! Its Bastow B-A-S-T-O-W, NOT DIFFICULT!!!
Another day out for nowt then!!
-
I'm sure it's nothing personal - the document is riddled with typos.
-
It just doesn't appear to be very professional!!
Maybe their commercial sales are better!!
-
What are you selling? I could go and look but the catalogue is filed for Saturday!
-
I'm selling my Jacob tups. My registered stock tup, his 2year old son and tup lamb.
I was hoping to buy some females but the only females are from my friend and one other with 3 gimmers.
There's a osb gilt for sale in aberfoyle, so I'll go see that too.
-
I'll just go to a dog show then(http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Animals/yeti-002.gif)

I'm in shock!!
Have you seen the catalogue yet??
Someone is selling a 5 year old jack russell bitch and a 7 week old puppy...........throught the auction ring!
That poor bitch will have no idea what is going on, and why her master is getting rid of her and sending her to god knows what, and where.
Even my hardened farmer husband thinks its a bit off doing that.
Should that be allowed??
Legally, possibly, but morally, I don't think so!!
If I could, I'd buy her, its sooooooo wrong (my personal opinion)!!
-
I must be blind- I have checked the catalogue and I can't see any mention of any dogs???!

The catalogue that was posted out to me had the dogs in it. Maybe it's not on the web one.
I just find it horrible!!
-
It's not in my downloaded catalogue either. Sheepdogs are sold by auction at specialist sales - I'm not sure if JR is rare and traditional breed though!
-
They are in the catalogue after the cows and goats under rare breed. I know they sell sheepdogs at certain sales but I just find this situation off!!
I must be a woose about my dogs!
-
I do too, 'cos I'm woosy about mine too. Tell me how much you want to pay and I'll bid for you tomorrow. ;D

Nope they are are an ancient but very common breed - classed as mongrels until a few years ago by the KC. Now they recognise the Parson Russell which is a posher version of the JR.

I'm comingto the sale rosemary, but have been told to keep my hands down!! No more dogs!! 6 is enough.....I'm told.
-
Well, the sale turned out to be quite a good day. I met ukag0972, who had kept her hands down but her hubby hadn't and he'd bought a hen and 14 chicks. I met bigchicken, who had bought 2 Ryeland ewe lambs. I met ballingall and lockerbitereiver who had bought the aforementioned puppy, so we can be sure it has a great home. I met Andrew and Janis who bought a Shetland tup and four Black Rocks (all typical Andrew bargains ;D - I don't know how he does it) and rescued me after I was overcome by "the fever" and bought some Black Rocks I didn't want - so they bought them off me.
In the end I came home with 12 Copper Maran eggs for £3.50, which are now under two hens that went broody in the last couple of days. I had two cups of tea, a black pudding roll (feel virtuous because I only had one slice of BP on it)and a lovely piece of millionaire's shortbread.
Great day. Hope everyone and their purchases got home safe!
-
I got home safe and well after a trip to pizza hut and a trip to dalmally auction Market where we bought 54 ewes!!!
I'm so glad that wee puppy has went to a good home, any idea where the mum went??
Great day for meeting folk!!
-
Wish I'd come now, but feel very virtuous - all dogs walked, ducks and chickens walked, ;) three washing loads done, finished painting the study, put some of the furniture back in and started on the CSSA Calendar. Off to do soem more now - after doing my 50 lines

They didn't sell the mum. The owner actually offered her to us for nothing along with the pup, but there's no way our adult JR would accept another adult (and especially an adult breeding female). The pup is settling well, all the other dogs have accepted her, and she has no fear, came out with us to do the goats, follows along at heel very, very well.
Not that we had intended to buy a pup, but our own JR is over 12, and is aging fast, and we had already spoken about a getting a replacement ratter in to get trained up before she leaves us.
We also bought some Black rocks, but ours were as a present for my aunt. However, we bought a pair of Gold Silkie pullets to go along with the 2 we hatched earlier this year, and also a trio of Gold Seabrights. And we couldn't resist a wee black banty hen with 5 cayuga ducklings. We only were sucked into buying them because we lose our own cayuga ducklings this year.
Conditions were typical mart ones, I was surprised by how young some of the stuff was- 3 week old ducklings with no mums. 1 4 week old chick totally on its own in a cage. :(
I was also suprised at the goats. They were in the condition I was expecting, but 2 of them were lame, and it is illegal to transport a lame animal, so how they got there I don't know. However they did make better money than I expected.

I was looking at the Anglo Nubian, but they looked abit ropey!!!
That woman with the jr bitch should be reported! I was nowhere near to see either being sold!!
I looked at the chicken with ducklings too, but missed out!!
It was a good day! When's the next outing??
-
To be fair the Anglo- Nubian was small, but she was relatively good example of an Anglo- Nubian. With some care and attention, and a good Anglo Nubian male to be mated too, you could actually have got some stock from her.
