Title: Pygmy Goats
Post by: Cecilcat on February 18, 2014, 05:45:28 pm
Hi

I am new to this site & looking for advice.

I am looking to get 2 pygmy goat kids (preferably 2 wethered males), I am a newby at keeping goats & want them purely as pets to enjoy & not for breeding or even necessarily showing.

I have goat breeders (Golden Guernsey's) in the family, but have always wanted Pygmy's.

I am just in the process of making my paddock goat friendly, complete with hardstanding & stable, so am looking for anyone with kids ready to re home from April time.

Can anyone recommend any breeders in & around the Buckinghamshire/ Bedfordshire area that may have stock available.

I do have a farm local that have 1yr olds available, but is this generally too old for them to settle in easier, would I be better getting them younger?

Any help & advice on age & breeders would be great.

Kind Regards

Kids taken off their mum with have no choice but to love you straight away but saying that a handful of goodies in you pocket will have the 1 year old chasing you about before the week is out I would think. I think of my 1 year olds still as youngsters as they still have quite a bit of growing to do so don't write them off - best best is take a visit - see how friendly they are where they are.

When I bought my first pygmy kid she came with her Aunty and another female, both of which were about 7 years old and they settled in brilliantly, I've had them 3 years now and they probably don't remember their previous life.  A squidgy dried apricot or half a plain hob nob every now and then will make them your pals instantly.

Pygmies are great fun.  Bet you get a female and do some breeding within a year or two  ;)   ;D  Look up the pygmy goat society on google, everyone wants their wethers in a nice home, some people want £150 for the boys but I've seen them go as kids at auction for £50.

Enjoy your goaties, and remember we always like pics here on TAS, good luck  :fc:
