Title: Baldy hens
Post by: ArosP on February 18, 2014, 09:14:03 am
Several of my chooks have lost all their breast feathers   and one has a scabby looking spot , I had been priding myself recently about how well they were looking when they were dry and then one had sour crop and dropped dead and now this. Is it a normal moult or something more sinister. They have been wormed recently

Doesn't sound like a normal moult if its only breast feathers missing, mine tend to look scabby all over when they moult   ???

I'd do a clear out and disinfect of the coop to eliminate REDMITE and a routine of powdering hens to eliminate lice or mites on the birds. If there's no improvement then its likely to be moult.
