Last night our sow, Lucky farrowed. This was her first litter, she is only 13 months old herself and has produced 9 gorgeous OSBs.
When I arrived home at 5pm I checked her and detected the very slightest sign of of milk. I finalised preparations by hanging a heat lamp and getting a light in the ark so we could see what we were doing and by 9pm when I next checked her, milk was squirting from her teats.
From past experience we now had a couple hours to wait so I went out briefly with a friend and returned at 10pm. I expecting to do a quick check and return inside for the start of a long night. However, Lucky had other ideas and had already produced 9 piglets and expelled both afterbirth's!! We stopped with her until 12:30am and then went to bed ourselves.
Today mum and all 9 are doing well, she is showing every sign of being a fantastic mum, ultra careful when lying down. Here are a few photos:

Luckys piglets are 2 weeks old on Wednesday. We had a difficult few days when Lucky had mastitis but (with thanks to Happy Hippy) we got her treated and all are now doing well. (6 gilts and 3 boars)
