Title: I could paint better than this....

I'm looking for a sheep painting for a wedding theme.....  I found this on ebay and I am shocked it's by a professional artist who sells their work.

Artistic TASers, what am I missing?  It really does look like a child would have done it.

Seriously surprised someone would try and sell this.

100% positive feedback with quite a few former customers though  :)  the 'non animal' pics are a lot better than the sheep one you've posted I think, its still lot better than i could manage ( I struggle glossing the skirting boards  ;D )

Looking at the other pictures, he's just knocking them out really.  Still, I don't see any talent with my very amateur eye.

Nothing against him but I'm surprised he's a professional artist that was all.

That's what I mean, its amazing what people will buy on ebay  :)  I think some of it is in the psyche - if its listed as a professional artist, people believe its good even if they deep down don't think it is.
Some time back, a soap maker was selling soaps with dried rose petals on, she'd posted the picture and it was already evident that the petals were dying and literally rotting (they were dark brown!) another soap lady gently told her that it was a bit of a fail but she still kept them on there... unbelivable!

If you are looking for art, I've found some local craft fairs have some real hidden gems, there's some incredibly talented people out there who only market at the fairs and not online. In fact, as a craftsperson (soap) I'd never venture near ebay to sell my produce  :)

I think it's just his style - not what I'd buy and there's no bids on any of them yet.  There's quite a lot of detail in them so I don't think I could paint them

i like it, its like a hazy summers day. its is a framed original so its not that expensive when you work the frame cost etc.
someones just trying to earn a crust.

iv got a few prints off ebay from artists and the originals were about £100 unframed. same standard if not different style.

i couldnt draw a dot personally. im not bad a stick men though  :roflanim: :roflanim:

compared to some of whats on ebay its not great, when we have spare pennies (not recently) mrs b. has acquired an impressive collection of original art from ebay.

we have oils and water colours some by artists that we obviously brought as they were starting out we paid 10-30 pounds for most of the pieces we have one we like we have been trying to get more by the same artist they are now 70-150 pounds for similar pieces to waht we own.

We must have a dozen assorted pics i suppose unfortunately my favourite was brought for a specific place in the old house and is 5ft by 3ft it cost more to frame than to buy in the first place but its too heavy for the walls in the current house so its in its packing crate behind the sofa...

When we next move finding it a suitable wall will be a priority!!!

As an amateur artist myself who sells the odd piece for very little  :innocent:  art is a matter of taste and once an artist makes a name people buy an old rubbish they produce or so it seems.

Not that i'm bitter or anything :eyelashes:

Debated this often, usually clutching a glass of red, with my niece and her 'arty' friends (doing their masters at the time) ..... quite amusing listening to them.  ;D

Very much ' in the eye of the beholder' I think.  ;D

I appreciate most but could never quite get the calf in the tank thing. Or, yes, it was probably designed to make us .

Fowlman, put some of your piccies on here  ;D I am looking for some farm scenes ... or chickens.  I bought a oil of a cockerel in Venice that I love.  In my heart I think it was probably painted in china.... but I love it.  I had to smuggle it home via Ryanair because it was too big

It's a lot better than I could do and you can tell they're sheep. I don't think I'd buy it though. KC, that painting is amazing. The detail is so accurate it could be a photo.

Fowlman, why are your paintings not on here in the craft for sale section? A lot of us like crafty things for gifts.

Wish I could paint or draw. I struggle to get a straight line with a ruler.  ;D

Art is subjective - it is a credit to this forum that nobody has mentioned Hitler yet.... ;D

I've got this really weird one by a Spanish bloke, eyes not even on the right side of the head, nose is in the wrong place and it's supposed to have a dog in it too, can't see it myself, could do better myself if the OH would let me have my crayon back ( got it stuck up my nose last time i used it, so it's been confiscated again, she's put it in the 'locked' cupboard with all the other sharp things), I digress, it's by this chap called miro, signed and everything...

I'm one of those artists that thinks all his work is rubbish and never understands why people buy it. As for farm scenes kitchen cottage it's not something i have done much of but may well do in future as there seems to be a big demand for it.
