Title: seeds
Post by: Higgins11 on September 17, 2009, 02:36:12 am
I'm considering running my pigs on some buckwheat that has gone to seed. The plants are still green but the blooms are finishing up and there are tons of seeds hanging on the plants still. Pigs don't have problems with seeds do they? even though buckwheat seeds are strang in size and have lots of pointed edges???

Hi I dont think they would have problems as the sanglier here often raid the barley, however whole grains tend to go straight through a pig the seeds would need to be bruised at least for digestion.  In my opinion you would not be reducing their need for straights very much.

thanks hillerysmum, my goal main goal is for them to eat the plant. They are sows so maybe it will help them out some.
