Hi all,
I haven't logged in here in a long time so hello to everyone!
I'm looking for some advice and hope you can help. We have been keeping pigs for two years now. Of course, everything is well above board with Herd No. etc.
Next weekend we will collect our first pedigree pig. Other than the usual paperwork with herd numbers and for bringing new pigs on to the land, is there anything I should get from the seller? Are the pedigree papers in booklet form or just a certificate?
We are buying from a reputable pig farm but I'd rather be fully aware of what we should expect so there's no surprises!
Thanks for your help in advance. I'm in Galway area, Ireland.

You should get a copy of the BPA pedigree certificate. It's just a single sheet of paper. Once the transfer of ownership has taken place (the seller will do this), you will get a fresh certificate from the BPA with your name on it as the new owner. Just like buying a car (except you only get the previous owner's name on it, not all the previous owners).
If you are planning to breed pedigree litters in the future, you will need to join the BPA (unless your pig is a British Lop or a KuneKune - those breeds manage their own herd books). Unless you are a member, you will not be able to birth notify or register any litters.
There is some useful info somewhere on the BPA site under the "pedigree pig" section which explains everything for new owners - but do continue to ask questions here on the forum or PM/email me for info. If I can help, I will.
Good luck

Here you go. The hyperlinks aren't very clear, but hover over each line and you should see which are linked to documents.
All the best

As far as I'm aware, you can be a member of the BPA in any part of the world. I know of members in France.

Thank you all so much.
We carried out a successful piggy transaction yesterday :)
We will register with the BPA in the coming weeks. An Irish version is in the process of starting up at the moment so that will be great in the future.
Thanks so much for your help! :pig:
