A day celebrating and exploring British wool.
Run alongside Greenhead Farmers’ Market.
There will be vendors selling any and everything to do with or made from British wool (much of it local); local spinners, knitters, crocheters and other crafters will be undertaking Sheep to Shawl on the Wall (commencing with handclipping a sheep who grazes alongside Hadrian’s Wall at 10am!) as well as showing and demonstrating related equipment, techniques etc.

Sounds really interesting! I've also added a post for this on the North Pennines Smallholders (http://www.northpenninessmallholders.co.uk/wool-on-the-wall-sunday-8-july-2014/) website as well...

Great, thanks! That's very kind of you. :-*
You've been a little fast off the blocks and cut-and-paste the info from the inaugural event which was in 2012.
This will be the second. (We're going for biennial ;) )
It's on July 13th this year, and the event timetable will be different - not yet finalised and therefore not yet published. This time we're doing "Sheep to Shawl on the Wall" rather than sheep shearing demos throughout the day.
If you wouldn't mind correcting your post! Especially the date!

Whoops! Sorry about that - that post has been updated as requested :-[

That's great, thanks very much :)

This looks super, hope to go.

I'll add it to our FB page

Great, thanks
There will be something on Facebook in due course, linked to the Farmers' Market, but I'm not sure exactly what or where yet. I'll invite you [to like it] when it's up

bump! It's this coming Sunday! :excited:
As well as all the many and varied stalls and exhibitors Celebrating British Wool, we'll be doing a maximum participation Sheep to Shawl challenge; we've spinners and knitters coming from all over (at least 6 counties and two or three countries!) to lend a hand or two! :D
BH will be hand-clipping 4 or 5 sheep during the morning; the first of which donates the fleece for the challenge. (Although actually we are spinning a fleece that we have already washed, in order to maximise participation ;) But we won't start until BH puts the handclippers down.)
You can like the event on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WoolontheWall) now, and Follow it on Twitter @WoolontheWall
Do come along (in real life! :D) if you can get there, and if you can bring any or all of a spinning wheel, spindle, dog comb, knitting needles (size 6mm), to lend a hand, so much the better! :D

Devon is a bit far away for me to come, and we have B and B guests this weekend, so I wish you all a great weekend, and I would have loved to take part. Perhaps next time!

Oh brilliant! You can be #1 Shearer's Helper, please! I'd been wondering how I was going to split myself in two... ;)
We're bringing Charlie2 and her this year's Texel lamb, a Dutch Texel x and her 3/4 Dutch Texel lamb, Sophie as backup, Dora (Charlie1's last year's lamb, Shetland x) and Goldie Horn (Castlemilk Moorit.) So Charlie2, Dora and Goldie are all tame :)
Hopefully the two "Soft Fell" fleeces (Charlie2 and the DTx) will be good enough to sell on the day. (Ostensibly the Sheep to Shawl uses the first one clipped, which will be the DTx, but in fact we have one just like it already washed ready to use, so can sell the one we clip on the day.) Dora's fleece is spoken for, and I will hold onto Goldie's, too.
Shall you spin :spin: and/or knit :knit: with us?
-
:excited: fab, Do I get a #1 shearers helper badge ;D I'll join in the spin/knit club too once the girls and lambs are settled after shearing. Looking forward to the day and had better bring
My purse Graham's wallet ;D

You do if you make one! lol
The handclipping is at 10, 11 and 12. We start to spin once the first is clipped, so I will run to the spinners' marquee as soon as he puts his blades down.
It'll be the Dutch Texel x at 10, then probably Charlie2 and Goldie at 11, Dora at 12. Or a variation thereof ;)
I'm bringing my project bag that hangs on my wrist, so I can have a ball of yarn in there and knit as I walk about!

Have a great day today. Photos of finished shawl please!

Here are a couple of shots of the shawl being modelled, the first by the lady who co-ordinated its stitching together and the second by myself.
And there are some more pics of the events here (http://s1286.photobucket.com/user/fionaannecurtis/library/Wool%20on%20the%20Wall%202014?sort=2&page=1) and here (http://walkingmarj.jalbum.net/Wool%20on%20the%20Wall/#Stitchin%20shawl.jpg)

Had a great day Sally, thank you.
Did buy something in the craft room before leaving ::) but only a hand turned wooden button to sew on my knitted hat from my first handspun and dyed fleece :excited:
