Title: sweet potatoes in Scotland
Post by: northfifeduckling on January 28, 2014, 03:53:21 pm
did anyone grow them here successfully? If yes, which method did you use and where did you grow them (greenhouse, bags, outdoors)?  :&>

I've been told that the Midlands are too far north to grow them so I would be interested to know as well.

I recall the Beechgrove Garden grew them a couple of years ago (or tried anyway).
In a polly tunnel I think it was.

I'd try it in a pt or greenhouse or on top of a 'hot bed'.
It would be worth a go.

I actually grew some last year. I just grew them outdoors- didn't plan it at all, they were just reduced to 50p in homebase in May so I decided to give them a try.

They did fine, I got really lucky- but we had a really good summer last year. I don't think they would do well in a normal year, and dreadfully in a bad year (like 2012).
