Post by: piggly wiggly on January 20, 2014, 05:07:29 pm: Hi, I have 17 weaners of different ages some 9 weeks and some 12 they all need worming and so do my 2 sows

I know I've left it a bit late and the weaners are getting quite big but to be honest I've been putting it off, I really don't like injecting! Worming the 2 sows was fine I'm just worried about doing the weaners.

I'm looking at buying a slap-shot flexible vaccinator, how much easier will this be?? and injecting with Noromectin 1% multi injection behind the ear? Is this the right product??

I've also seen Flubenol 5% Oral powder, Is this any good? Its very expensive and comes in huge quantities? I'm just worried that they wouldn't get the right dose each?!

Any advice ?? Please :)

Post by: Marches Farmer on January 20, 2014, 05:12:24 pm: I prefer in feed wormer, dose set for the heaviest animal, but if you've got a very mixed bunch probably better to split them into roughly the same weight groups. The Panacur pellets I used to use appear to be no longer available, so it's Flubenol from now on.

And you know that each pig has had the correct dose. Giving it in the feed relies on you mixing it in properly and the pigs sharing it out properly which is pretty unlikely unless you feed the individually.

Post by: piggly wiggly on January 21, 2014, 02:46:16 pm: Thanks for all the advise, I've just ordered the slap-shot thingy!! and the wormer obviously, we decided its the best and cheapest option and I need to bite the bullet and get use to injecting if I wanna keep pigs!

Post by: Tudful Tamworths on January 21, 2014, 07:06:36 pm: It's worth getting some strong, reusable needles, too. The Slap Shot uses luer-lock needles, rather than the plastic disposable push-on ones your vet will often give you.
