I am new here so I don't want to get moaned at. However, can I make a request for you to put your location on your profile?
OK, a lot of you have done this already. But there are quite a few who haven't. It makes it a bit confusing when there is a statement about the weather, for example. Here - in Norfolk, England, we have had a dry Summer. I don't have any figures but considering we had a dry Spring as well, I imagine the rainfall since March is under 10"/25cm.
I know that Scotland and Wales have had a load of rain recently and I noticed that there was a comment that it's been a cold wet Summer in North East USA and Eastern Canada. So any comment I make about my problems getting water on seedlings and the ground being rock hard only makes sense if you know where abouts in the world I am doing my smallholding (holding my small?).
It doesn't have to be your exact Lat/Long location or your post code. Just the region/county/State - whatever gives me a picture of where you are in the world.
Any comments you want to make (must be mad/NFN = Normal For Norfolk) would be welcome.
I also like the fact that the audience for this web site includes people from other regions because you get more ideas contributed. So I am not complaining that you might not be be next door neighbour.
Thanks

Well you are about to get moaned at, how dare you have a dry summer and then rub our noses in it ha ha ha. Yip, here in Fife it has been an appauling wet and windy summer, today the rain cannot come down any faster and all my animals have taken to their beds - except ofcourse the ducks and the geese! We are only jealous.
Welcome to the forum, please tell us about yourself, do you have any animals etc??

Dear Norfolk Newby
what are you gonna do in 6 months time when you've posted 20,000 times and are no longer a newby?
we'll all be confused who you are and why you prattle on like a wizened old hack when you claim to be a newby indeed
on the subject of Norfolk i've spent the morning watching (what must be) a Norfolk Local Hero on my ipod - none other than Alan Partridge - A-HAAAAAAA!!

I've been living in a veritable swamp for the last month or more, while you southerners have been baking.

Hiya,
there's a members map on the header bar - it shows where we are, providing everyone's put their pin in ;)

I think that's the problem - some paranoids won't do that in case someone comes to pinch (steal) their husbands/wives (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Animals/3d-crab.gif) Pinch pinch

-
Well we are in Cardiff - Capital of Wales - very very wet - if someone wants to steal my husband - I want a signed affidavid - non returnable goods :) Mrs Bobby
-
We are in the Peak District in Derbyshire, and it seems to have rained most of what was supposed to be summer!!! I hardly watered my veg plants - the rain did it!!
-
P.S, your not having mine!!!! ;)
-
Thanks for your 'encouragement'. That's two offers to take on someone's husband, 6 moans about the rain (what rain?!) and 19 assorted - but unrelated - comments.
I exaggerate, of course!
Oh well, back back to the irrigation pump.
Actually, we did have a reasonable amount of rain yesterday, but it's about the first significant rain for a month.
To answer someone's question, I don't have any animals - unless you include a couple of daft spaniels. Mine is an arable plot. So I am digging and planting when I do something which is why the rain or lack is a problem. I am starting to spend more time on weeding though as the plants I want get lost amongst the ones I don't want.
