Found one of our quails dead today. Puzzled how it died, we are just worming them with layers pellets and flubenvet which we were told was alright for them? could it have chocked on a pellet? We have used pellets before with not a problem. Or could it be the cold? Anyone have any suggestions? The quail showed no sign of blood apart from a tiny spot on its foot so I doubt it was killed by the others??

No idea, but I lost one of my trio when I first got them. No apparent reason just found it dead two days after they arrived here and it was replaced straight away. Mine eat pellets all the time so i doubt it was that. I've put a protective cover round the cage tonight as frost is expected.

hmm, not sure what could have killed your quail. Like Doganjo, I've also wormed my quail with flubenvet pellets and they seem to cope fine with the pellet size. I would keep a close eye on the others for a couple of days to look out for any signs of infection you might have missed in this quail.
It could have been the cold maybe, might be worth putting a bit of extra protection on your quail house. :fc: it is just a one off.
