Title: disastrous start to -unplanned - lambing
Post by: hexhammeasure on January 06, 2014, 10:26:37 pm
we are having a short spell of immaculate conception lambs, we have no idea how the 6 ewes are in lamb this early. there were no tups within 3 fields  to our knowledge, but however it has happened we are having large lambs and out of 3 births only have 1 surviving lamb, 1 ewe is older and has no milk yet but the other has plenty, does anyone have any spare lambs on the go? willing to travel  northumberland/durham/ borders in the next 24 hours and payŁ20 for any breed so long as its healthy

umm should this be in marketplace??? too tired to think it through...

and thanks

Oh no, sorry to hear that  :P

Try contacting SallyintNorth, pm her and she'll get the email. She's not far from you and I know they start some of their commercial flock flock quite early, though not sure if this early.

Could try contacting your vet - they'll know who has early-lambing flocks.

Oh, poor you - and poor sheep.

And very surprising, our tups were out in time for our usual Valentine's Day early lambers, but the weather was unseasonably warm and there was no action really for a couple of weeks.  We expect a few lambs end Feb / early March but nothing much until about March 10th - the weather turned on Oct 14th!

So I am very sorry but we have no lambs yet and I haven't seen any around and about either.  There is a Texel breeder near us will almost certainly have started, but it'll be all indoors and he'll likely want a lot of money for one of his lambs - they have a special sale just for tups from this farm at Borderway each year.  Shout if you want his number, though.

Best of luck.
