Hi there. I have 2 beautiful Welsummer Cockerels who need a new home, also a buff Orpington boy and 3 brown Orpington boys. It's not desperate to rehome yet as they are still quite young but if anyone local to me wants my boys for breeding, I would prefer, as I would rather they didn't go into the pot. I am in the Norfolk Broads area, and my boys were all hatched by me last summer. They are lovely friendly boys, and they deserve a good life with someone who will love and care for them as much as I do!! :thumbsup:

Pity you are not closer to devon, I could do with another good welsummer boy. We had 2 brothers for breeding with our unrelated hens this year but one popped his clogs one night.

That's a shame we aren't closer! They are lovely boys and I'm sure would have been perfect for you. Never mind-hopefully I will find them a good home and all the best in your search! :fc:

Males selected for breeding should be of the very highest quality. You are IMO doing them as individuals and the breed a favour by putting them in the pot.
I set out deliberately each year to breed a certain number of cocks knowing full well that only a minority of them will be up to standard. I plan this and take into account that the duds and any surplus will become freezer fodder.

Our Welsummer cockerel is a cheeky little monkey and pinches girls from under the noses of the two more senior cockerels. I plan to separate him soon and put him with a couple of cream legbars to see if I can get some olive egg laying crosses next year.

Hi Linda - I probably live too far away to justify a special trip but wondered if you travel this way for any reason.
I am in Northampton and lost my buff cockerel last year to the heat. He was a lovely big gentle bird. The other Light Sussex cockerel I have is a brute with the girls!
I would love my 4 buff hens to have a new breeding cockerel as I could then separate them off.
I also have a gorgeous welsummer hen that I would love to separate to breed from.
I would love to pair yours up with mine if we could deal with the travelling.
It would be happy to travel to North Cambridge A14 area if we could work it out.

Shame you're not a bit closer. My OH is not keen on a long trip unfortunately. They are still quite young so not ready to breed yet but if you are still keen in the spring and can make it over here, maybe we could arrange something. They would be free, of course.
