Post by: Hillview Farm on January 05, 2014, 08:55:53 pm
Just a little question,

How many ewes are recommended for a well grown Ram lamb?

Thanks  :sheep:

My ram lambs get 40/50 girls each for 14 days and usually 30/40 get in lamb
Follow up with an older lad to make sure the job is done

Maturity is more important than growth.  I expect our hire rams to cover up to 15 ewes within 21 days when they're a minimum of 7 months old.  I prefer to use shearlings or older for our own flock.

last year 71 per lamb  97% in lamb, this year 62 for 1 lamb ,  grass fed only .  A lamb should manage 40 so long as he's not been fattened on to many concs
