Title: Werefowl?
Post by: Possum on December 27, 2013, 01:56:27 pm
Well, I've heard of werewolves howling at the moon in the middle of the night, but poultry? We have had a few clear nights recently and our young bantam cockerel has started to crow at three or four in the morning. He goes on for a good 10 or 15 minutes.

Does this happen to anyone else?

But he's tiny!(Although we don't say so in his hearing). There won't be a great deal of meat on him.

Yep I had one of those - to make matters worse he wouldn't go in the coop but roosted in the bushes outside my window - The dog had him for dinner the following evening.

Ours are doing the same when the cloud breaks in front of the moon Possum. They respond to changes in light levels during the day and night so during the full moon period they can be going on and off all night. Sounds lovely to us. Obviously we are looking at houses with no neighbours for at least 200 metres as not many people share our enjoyment and we can't bring them all (9) into the house every night. It gets far worse when you have one within earshot of another as well as one will prompt another and so on.

Guess if it's a problem you can either bring him into a dark room, close the vents on the coop and risk respiratory infections, move him further away or, as suggested, eat him.
